Alex Iwobi Scores Brace As Nigeria Beat Argentina 4-2 In Russia

The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday came back from two goals down to overcome a Messi-less Argentina national team, 4-2, in an international friendly match in Russia.

The game, in preparation for the Russia 2018 World Cup, was played in Krasnodar, Russia.

The Argentina national team, which paraded star players like Sergio Aguero, Javier Mascherano and Angel Di Maria, scored the first two goals of the game with strikes from Ever Banega and Sergio Aguero.

The Super Eagles came from 0-2 deficit to hand over a memorable defeat to the Messi-less Argentines.

A brace from Alex Iwobi and a goal each from debutant Bryan Idowu, who came on as a substitute, and Kelechi Iheanacho, who also bagged two assists, secured the impressive win for the Eagles.

Ihenacho scored a superb free-kick on 44 minutes of the first half to reduce the tally to 2-1.

The Eagles soared back to life in the second half when Iwobi equalised in the 52nd minute to make it 2-2.

Newly invited Brian Idowu made it 3-2 for Nigeria in the 54th minute of the game while Iwobi scored his second goal of the game to make it 4-2 and seal the victory for Nigeria.

The win is Nigeria’s second in eight meetings against Argentina who have five wins.
