Robinho Sentenced To Nine Years In Prison For Sexual Assault



Former Manchester City forward Robinho has been sentenced to nine years in prison by a Milan court for sexual assault, according to Italian news agency ANSA
ANSA say Robinho has been convicted for the assault which took place in a Milan disco on 22 January 2013 while Robinho was playing for AC Milan.

Five other men were also found guilty in the same case. Robinho has the right of appeal.
Marisa Alija Ramos, Robinho’s agent and lawyer, said : ‘With regards to the allegations surrounding Robinho, the alleged incident took place several years ago.

‘I clarify that my client has already defended himself against the charges and maintains he played no part in the incident.

‘All legal steps are already being taken in response to this decision.’

He has a right to two appeals and Italy would only launch extradition proceedings once this legal process is exhausted, a legal source said.

The Milan court ordered the victim to receive €60,000 (£53,000) as compensation for her suffering.
Brazil does not extradite its citizens.

In 2009, Robinho, who was with Manchester City at the time, was arrested but did not face charges for what West Yorkshire Police called “a report of a serious sexual assault that occurred at a nightclub in Leeds.”
