All the Head-Turning Beauty Looks from the First Monday in May

It’s almost been a week, but in case you hadn’t figured it out – the ‘First Monday in May’; aka the Met Gala aka fashion’s biggest night out aka the Oscars of Fashion – is a really huge deal globally.

Not familiar with the rules of the star-studded event? Well, guests are required to dress in tandem with the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibit – this year, showcasing over 40 pieces on loan from the Vatican as well as archival pieces by Coco Chanel, Christian Lacroix, John Galliano and Cristóbal Balenciaga as well as designers who are known for heavily mining their Catholic  backgrounds and religious leanings like show sponsor Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Jean Paul Gaultier, effectively spotlighting the influence Catholic iconography has had on the fashion industry in the least century.

Hosted this year by Anna Wintour and 2018 co-hosts Amal Clooney, Rihanna, and Donatella Versace, themed Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination – the 2018 event is one of the best Met Gala red carpets we have seen in a while and the A-List brought their A game and then some. From interpretations of Our Lady of Sorrows (Lilly Collins), Weeping Madonna (SZA) and iconic figures in Catholic History like Joan of Arc (Zendaya, Michelle Williams & Shailene Woodley) and Saint Huron (Solange Knowles) it was a red carpet to remember.

And while some looks weren’t as strong on the fashion front – their beauty looks more than made up for it. If there’s ever a time to be #TeamTooMuch and go all the way with your hair and makeup, it’s at the Met Gala and this year  there was really an emphasis on creativity, giving us a veritable plethora of  regal headpieces, crowns, and cosplay worthy beauty looks. – Scroll to see some of our very favourite looks this year.
