Mario Balotelli Handed One Match Ban For Red Card Vs Dijon

Nice striker Mario Balotelli has been banned for one match after he was sent off for a late tackle in the closing stages of his team’s 1-0 win over Dijon

After scoring the only goal of the game, Mario Balotelli was shown a red for his challenge.

Balotelli converted a 39th-minute penalty for his sixth league goal of the season after Alassane Plea was brought down by Jordan Marie.

But his afternoon ended on a sour note when he was shown a straight red card for a tackle from behind on defender Cedric Yambere.

The French Football League’s Disciplinary Commission, sitting on Thursday, imposed a two-game ban but suspended one of those matches.

It means Balotelli will miss the league meeting with Caen on Nov. 19 but is available for the visit of Lyon a week later.

“I’m happy with this punishment,” Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere said.

“We saw the pictures again and you can see the foul is minor, that Mario has no intention of tripping someone up but wants to get the ball to Alassane [Plea].

“The disciplinary commission is always willing to listen and they let us express ourselves.

“They listened to the player and took their decision with the impartiality that characterises them.”
